Hearts of Space

Sugar Franklin has laid four perfect cockatiel eggs and is sitting on them very hard this go-around. She bites if I go near her.

I'm taking all four parrots to the vet's tomorrow for feather and nail trims, so I'm going to take the eggs away from Sugar tonight. She'll just have to be mad.

I got a pay-as-you-go subscription to Hearts of Space today; it used to be on our local NPR station and I've missed it. It's a nice relief from rock n roll and everyday classical stuff. Kinda like background music in cult movies; transparent yet all-encompassing.

Speaking of which, I'll be starting piano lessons next week.

Spirituality and Food

It's time for me to present a program in the little "creation/creative spirituality" group I've been attending, and I'm thinking of doing it on spirituality and food. Until I Googled it and started looking at all the sites. Lucky for me I don't have to answer any questions or prove anything in my presentation -- just present and discuss. I think I'll pass out one potato chip to everyone and have them mindfully eat it; they can see/taste firsthand how unflavorful they are. Or maybe some other food item we tend to mindlessly eat and overeat. French fries would be perfect but they'd be cold before we could do the mindful eating.

Lots of wind here today -- days like these it's easy to imagine various gods blowing their breaths and shaking trees with their footsteps. I've noticed a trend in some tv commercials to use the old gods to hype aspirin. I wonder what they would say if they knew or, if they're still around, what revenge they might be dreaming up.

I picked up Babel at the library this weekend; a wonderful movie, which I was prepared to dislike but which has lingered favorably ever since. How intertwined we all are, like it or not.
